Mixed Media Monday – Gelli Print Journal Page

Hello my creative friends! Thank-you for joining me for this weeks episode of Mixed Media Monday. My journal page this week was all about using some of that beautiful stack of gelli prints that I have created over the past couple of months.

I will start off by telling you how I store my prints. I picked up a large, clear office organizer from my local office supply store and it just happened to slide perfectly into into my cube storage shelving unit! It has 2 drawers that are about 3″x 3″x 9″, then an open space that is 3″x 6″x 9″ across the top and the rest of the rack is broken into paper sized slots of 3″x 13″x 9″ deep.

I keep all my little scraps, printed labels and tags in the little drawers.  Place the envelopes, half pages, doilies and small book pages in the smaller slot. Then I organize all the bigger prints. One slot for the letter sized printed pages, this is mostly on white card stock as that is my preferred printing paper, it gives me the choice of using it in paper piecing but is also sturdy enough for book making. The next slot down is all the other pages that are around letter sized, so book pages, file folders, delli papers, wrapping paper and so. and then the bottom section is for my large prints that come from large book pages, legal sized papers, brown paper bags and so on.

This is A LOT of storage space in my workshop for one specific item. So when it starts to get full, I don’t search for more storage space, because there simply isn’t any, I focus my efforts on using some of it up. Most often, that means CREATING!

My gelli prints are made of paint and paper. Paper can be used in almost ALL of my hobbies, and that is how I use it. For me, there isn’t anything special about it other than pride of creation, and sometimes I feel like I can’t even claim that because I used other peoples tools, such as stencils and paint. So, once my shelves get full I make things like: Book signatures, cards, ATCs, art journal pages, scrapbooking pages, embellishments, and die cuts. There really isn’t a limit.

Here is this weeks video on how I used them to create a quilted art journal page.

Happy Monday, and thanks for watching, commenting and visiting often!

What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 328

Welcome again to the linky party happening over at Stamping Ground!

Every Wednesday a whole bunch of creative peoples get together online to celebrate that while we are not all incredibly organized, we are all incredibly busy!

This week I am creating in my upstairs living room. My husband and I turned it into a classroom/table top gaming room in January and have been taking turns spreading out our hobbies. I use it to teach “Mixed Media Monday” to some local ladies every week and he uses it on Wednesday evenings to play games and make videos for his YouTube channel.

Oh, and TODAY is Wednesday so ALL of this…

…needs to go back down to my workshop.

For most of the day though, I am creating classes. The first one is an art journaling techique class that I will teach in my home. The second and third are gelli plate mono-printing and projects to make with the prints. I will teach those 2 in a local scrapbooking store.

Thanks for stopping by and please scroll down to the bottom to leave a comment so I know you were here.

Scrap Kit Saturday – Card & ATCs

Hello again my creative friends!

Today I am showing you the card and ATC’s that I made using Scrapbooking Fanatics August 2015 Scrap Fan Kit.

I posted an introduction video of the kit to my YouTube channel back on August 1st and then made a scrapbooking layout with it the following week. Here are the videos if you missed them!

Next week I will be doing some altered art with this kit, so keep your eyes peeled!

August Card and ATC

I made this project with the August 2015 kit, as well as components from the May 2015 and July 2015 kits for a bit of variety.

Homework Trays #KSDT2015

Spark Some Kreativity Saturday @ the Kraaft Shaak

Hello my creative friends!

It is that time again!

I get to show you my August KraaftShaak.com design team project! This month our theme is all about “Back To School”. For me, this topic made my mind nearly explode with ideas so I had to narrow down the field a little bit. These are the criteria I chose to use to sort out my ideas:

Does it help the children?

Does it make mornings easier?

Does it solve any of the problems we had last year?

Yes, yes and yes! This project met all of my criteria. I am calling it a “homework tray”. The IDEA is that when the children come into the house after school they will hang their back packs on a hook in the kitchen, remove and empty their lunch kits and place ALL the papers and their agendas into their own tray. Then, at homework time, I can help them sort through and read the papers, finish any homework and sign off on their agendas. Everything that goes back to school will go back to the tray so that in the morning it is easy to grab the pile and put it in their back packs with their lunch kits.

I started this project out with 2 wooden file trays that I picked up at Home Sense, which is a home decor store here in Canada. I then sat down with them and my mixed media kit from the Kraaft Shaak and started to play. Normally I like to decorate in a kind of “over the top” way, but this time I wanted to keep things simple so that they wouldn’t get damaged through regular wear and tear. I even asked my children for their opinions on some things.

KSDTBackToSchool2015 (9) KSDTBackToSchool2015 (4)

KSDTBackToSchool2015 (1)

To summarize, I am creating a single place where all the stuff that comes home from school can congregate!

Does it help the children? YES, because when mom and dad say “where is your agenda?” we wont hear “I don’t know”

Does it make mornings easier? YES, because everything will be in one easy to find place!

Does it solve any of the problems we had last year? YES, because there were many mornings where we were scrambling for things like library books, permissions slips, agendas and homework. The “I don’t know” monster had emptied the backpacks into the gaping hole (a.k.a front door) and everything had vanished into thin air!

So, while I do not look forward to the bumpy road of establishing the routine of “how to empty your back pack after school” I do look forward to a little bit less stress!
